Intro to Mountaineering Weekend

Mt Athabasca and Mt Andromeda, Coulumbia Icefields

The 2 day Introduction to Mountaineering Weekend is one day of mountaineering skills followed with a peak ascent and open for any climbers to join a scheduled group.

Day 1:
Snow and ice climbing movement skills.
Use of ice axe, crampons, rope and hardware.
Roped glacier travel techniques.
Basic crevass rescue.
Hazard awareness.

Day 2:
Continue to develop new skills while climbing a suitable snow and ice peak.

This course is held at Mt Athabasca on the Columbia Icefield. 1 hour south of Jasper and 1.5 hours north of Lake Louise.

Objectives are Mt Athabasca, A2 Peak or Boundry Peak.

This area allows easy access to the glaciers and excellent introductory snow and ice alpine routes.

Fees are quoted per person, in Canadian funds.

Price includes instruction/guiding and use of all technical gear like ice tools, crampons, harness, helmet and rope. You must provide food, suitable clothing and mountain boots that can be rented locally. Hut, hotel or car camping is available at base.
Car camping at the Ice Fields campground cost $14 per night and is first come self registration.
